Well, well, well! Civil 3D has a tool that allows you to "Use maximum triangle length"!
Okay boys and girls, here is what I want you to do. Select your surface from your prospector tab --> Give the ole' right click and select Properties --> While in your Surface Properties dialog box select the Definition tab --> Under Definition Options expand Build, set the Value for Use maximum triangle length to Yes and specify your Maximum triangle length, VIOLA! You can now say goodbye to those pesky long triangles that we just end up deleting anyway :)

Melanie,
What happens to the triangles? They just don't get created.
Wasn't there a way to use smoothing to get rid of these bad triangles?
Thanks,
Conan Witzel
Hi Conan,
That's right, it does not create the TIN lines if the length exceeds the maximum length that you have specified.
There is still a way to "smooth" the contours. If you are in your surface properties, select the contour tab, allow for smoothing and then you can specify at the bottom of the screen how much smoothing you want to apply!
Hope this helps,
Melanie
Hi Melanie,
I'm slowly making the transition from LDD 2k5 and am trying to learn tips like this.
Does this function work if the surface was imported through the Import Data From Land Desktop command?
Thanks,
Larry
Larry,
Yes it should also work if you bring in a surface form LDT or even from an XML file!
